I almost wrote this book off as another writer self-insert fantasy. The FMC is boring, mild, and a writer in the first chapter when she meets a rich, manic pixie girl at a coffee shop. Then in chapter two, the FMC has a sudden personality change, she’s now confident, knows she’s beautiful, and very s*x positive… while the characterizations don’t fit together very well and almost feel like a new character, I’m here for the chapter 2 FMC. Though I could have done without the scared of commitment because she’s been burned trope. Not sure if the writer suddenly realized she was writing a self-insert and decided to change things up or the writer herself got a life after COVID, either way, big improvement. Predictably storyline, but well-written, nice narrative voice. The spice is lacking but unlike other writer who drone on and on taking their characters through uns*xy and physically impossible acts during these scenes, this writer doesn’t make those scenes painfully long and the scenes are pasted in, they actually serve a refreshingly rare narrative point.

Unfortunately, I hated the ending. It was unnecessarily dramatic and silly. I would have rather seen the the two characters come together after they’d healed from grief, maybe years later.

What a heartbreakingly yet warmly enjoyable story. Many kudos to the writer who created this story and the actors who shared it with us through voice. picked up this book by chance and I am so glad that I did. even though the whole premise of the story is super sad, it ends on a courageous and heartfelt note.
