About this listen

Now in development as a feature film with Amazon MGM Studios, with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad attached to write the script!

Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.

The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.

I’ve spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.

I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.

But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father’s throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.

Now I’m crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn’t choose and a husband I barely know.

Everyone wants me to be something I’m not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.

But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there’s power in being underestimated?

And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?

Contains mature themes.

Jason Clarke is hard to understand in parts. It is a combination of getting him to annunciate and make his parts louder because I could get my iPhone loud enough to understand him at times. Very frustrating.

this story will be dropping plot twists you won't even see coming and leave you with needing answers answered. The slow burn and beautiful story building will have you so emersed you won't want it to end.

I have read so many of Devney Perry's series and I am not usually a fan of fantasy but decided to pick this one up at the last moment because I kept hearing about it. I am so glad I did. She really hit it out of the ballpark with this one. This book has everything; romance, adventure, a storyline that kept me guessing. The worlds were so descriptive. The characters were varied and strong. No simpering heroine here. I hope we don't have to wait long for the next one. I still have questions. Of course I do. I also ordered the hard copy which I rarely do but I want this one for my collection. Also the narrators were fantastic. So many voices so I always knew who was talking.

Best book I have read or listened to this year

Personally I don’t like books that involves court stuff, thankfully it wasn’t too much, but in the beginning I was near a dnf because of the court stuff. I’m glad I stuck with it, because this is a well written story with action, mystery and a rich fantasy world.
I’m left with many questions that I would love to have the answers to. Maybe even have a peek inside the author’s mind, but I imagine that a somewhat scary place.
The author manages to paint a vivid image of what’s on the page, with great character development and a good pace for how the different relationships evolve through the story.
It’s definitely worth a read if you like fantasy. Some great twists that may have your jaw dropping and your feet kicking.

Great storyline filled with mystery

INFINITY FREAKING STARS ⭐️!!!! Do not read the review if you don’t want spoilers I beg you. Just know you need to read this right NOW!!

Spoilers after this point!!!

I have completely sobbed at the last 5%. I just pulled myself together and made myself stop staring into the void to write my review.
This world was set up perfectly and I truly felt like I was odessa because we are learning allll of the secrets and experiencing everything through her. Also I freaking love odessa. One of my favorite FMC’s now. I felt all of her pain.

From the beginning I started suspecting that odessa was truly married to the guardian and the guardian and Xavier had switched places. But then I started second guessing myself towards the half way mark because I thought at first they had only switched to trick odessas father but no! Wow what a ride.

Also the slow burn and tension were absolutely perfect. One of my favorite parts of this book was watching Odessa and Ransom fall in love with each other especially for Odessa because she deserved to be loved. And she truly got that.

Evie stole the freaking show. She is loved by so many and my heart truly breaks for her that she will never have known her mother while she was alive. I’m am going to start crying again just thinking of her last memories of Xavier being dead. 😭

All of the twists and turns in the last 25% truly kept me glued to the page. Jaw drop after jaw drop. I was truly blind sided by Jocelyn and Brielle. And I swear to god I sobbed so hard to Xavier and Holstein and the little teaser of the last chapter giving us hope that they might be alive BETTER BE TRUE.

I can not wait for the next book, I’m going to be thinking of this everyday until then.

For this to be devney Perry’s first fantasy / romantasy I think it was done perfectly.

This may be the longest review I’ve written and there’s so much more I’m even leaving out but I loved absolutely everything!

I need the next book NOW
